Wheatgrass Seeds (Triticum aestivum)
The interest in so-called "superfoods" has is very topical, prompting new gardeners to grow their own. Wheatgrass is one of the simplest of the superfoods to grow, being a simple grass plant with little special requirement.
How to grow simple but it works like a charm
When to plant: All year round indoors
Prepare your seeds:
Soak your seeds in water between 2 and 12 hours
Prepare your soil:
Put the soil pellet into a bowl and add three times its volume of lukewarm water. After 10 minutes you will have enough soil to fill your desktop grow tin. Loosen the soil with a table fork and put most of your new soil into the pot and dampen down a little
Sow: Spread the pre-soaked seeds evenly over the soil almost like icing the dirt .yes literally that thick. Water well (not sloppy wet but wetter than you would normally water a plant). Then cover the tin with plastic film to make a little 'greenhouse' for your seeds! Place in a warm well lit spot in the home or office, a windowsill is perfect.
Wait a couple of days then check your grow tin, water if it looks like it needs it and then wait for another couple of days.
Water regularly, just enough to keep moist. Remove the cling film when the first sprouts appear. You'll see the first sprouts in 1 or 2 days. In less than 5 days your sprouts will be about 3cm tall
Care: Mist daily with a plant sprayer to keep the soil evenly moist.
Harvest: After 10 days you will be able to cut your first harvest, snip near the soil surface with scissors. The wheatgrass will continue to grow, giving you two or three new crops before you need to replant. There is enough seed in your kit to make another sowing. Also ask about our refill packs.
