I was at the Homebake Festival on the weekend and as I was sitting having my lunch I was approached by a lady to buy a SMILE sticker. I instantly got my money out and donated some money to buy a sticker. The SMILE stickers have been around for as long as I can remember and I think I would have bought between 20 and 30 of them in my life so far. In the past I would have bought my sticker and that would be all; now that I work in the Promotional Products Industry I take more notice of situations like this. I think that the SMILE stickers are a great example of the power of promotional products. By selling a simple sticker with the same design for many years much needed funds have been raised to assist the homeless. I think one of the reasons for success with this intiative is the design has always remained the same at least for as long as I can remember. It just means that when I get approached at a festival or event I instantly see the design and know what I am supporting by purchasing the sticker.
There is one way that the iniative could be improved and that would be to include a website on the sticker. When I went to write this blog I tried to find the organisation who sells the stickers so that I could promote it on the blog and wasn’t able to. On every promotional item you brand you should always try and put at least one contact detail so that if people are interested they can find out more about what you were promoting.
