If you follow our blog or a fan of the JEM Promotional Products Facebook Page you will probably know that JEM Promotional Products held a Biggest Morning Tea earlier this year. Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is one of Cancer Council’s leading fundraising events and the largest, most successful event of its kind in Australia. Over $60 million has been raised since it first began in 1994.
While organising the event I was reading through the Host Manual and found out about the Biggest Morning Tea’s Competition to design their official mug. The winning design will be reproduced into real mugs in 2010 and the top 10 mug designs will receive a copy of Maeve O’Meara’s mouth-watering Food Safari double DVD pack.
The team at JEM Promotional Products love coming up with product concepts and designing so when I told them about the competition many of our staff decided to enter. Entries closed on Friday 28 August 2009 and below are the mug designs we entered:
This was my design. I used two handles because I thought it promoted sharing and togetherness.
Lindsey decided to use the Daffodil as inspiration and used the petals as the saucer and stem as the handle.
Nga also decided to use the daffodil as inspiration and incorporate it into her handle. She wanted the person holding the mug to actually feel like they are holding a flower.
Even our Accounts Manager Lejla decided to have a go at design a Mug for the Biggest Morning Tea. She went for a more classical look and incorporate different shading of colours to create a modern feel.
Jayde’s Mug Design is one of the quirkier designs as it incorporates a section at the bottom of the mug to hold your cookies as well as some holes in the handle that you can slip the spoon through. This is actually a very practical design a many people end up standing at the Biggest Morning Tea events and it can be difficult to juggle a plate as well as your Mug!
Jacynta decided to take inspiration from the Wow Mug. The Mu starts as a solid black or blue colour and then when you pour hot water in the solid colour disappears and reveals your hidden message. Jacynta thought this would make a great talking point at the events held around Australia.
Coral decided to use the Daffodil also but on the printed design instead of in the shape.
Our designs will actually be put on the Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea Website and then we should find out later in the year if any of our designs are finalists. We will keep you updated!
