Fair Trade Products Empowering Farmers

Fair Trade Products Empowering Farmers

This may be a hard one to tackle but we can all make a start in getting a bit closer to that illusive goal of Fairtrading. Use your demand to empower people and forge lasting change. Choosing Fair Trade gives small-scale farmers the power to improve their livelihoods. Two-thirds of the world’s cotton is produced in developing countries by small-scale farmers. Fairtrade Certification ensures they get fair and stable prices, and have the power to improve their livelihoods.

Fairtrade labelling is based on a set of international standards guaranteeing producers in developing countries a fair and stable price, regardless of global market fluctuations.

We at JEM Promotional Products are proud to be part of the Promotional Products Australasia Association (APPA) which is actively involved in ensuring products are ethically sourced for our industry.

Ethical Sourcing and Modern Slavery
The Australasian Promotional Products Association (APPA) recognises that our members operate in a potentially high-risk industry sector. Our risk classification is the result of complex and diverse supply chains that encompass risks of modern slavery, ethical sourcing, environmental and product quality concerns.

The promotional products industry in Australia and New Zealand is diverse and is comprised of several providers such as decorators, suppliers, distributors and other service providers with unique risks in their supply chains.

As an industry sector comprised of many small and medium size enterprises (SMEs), our members are not reporting entities under the Australian Modern Slavery Act 2018 (or any other current or proposed legislation). However, it is the responsibility of each APPA member to commit to working within the resources available to them to address their modern slavery and ethical sourcing risks.

APPA recognises that our members role in complex and diverse supply chains does not preclude us from our own responsibility to instil a culture of transparency, and work with members and customers to address risks of ethical sourcing and modern slavery.

Recognising the leverage that APPA has to influence change, APPA will work with the wider industry to strive towards more ethical and responsible supply chains.
